The city of La Quinta lies at the foot of the Santa Rosa Mountains, located southeast of Indio in the Coachella ValleyThe city has established itself as a popular resort city dating back to the opening of La Quinta Resort and Club in 1926. The city was later named after the resort when it was incorporated in 1982. Today, it is home to numerous golf courses, resorts and over 40,000 residents. The median income in the city is $76,131, well above the average of the other cities and places in the Coachella Valley. 
Compared to other places and cities in the Coachella Valley, La Quinta has a relatively high homeownership rate (70%) and a low number of rent-burdened households (43%). The city also has a relatively low number of immigrants (15%) and non-English speaking households (3%).

La Quinta is the sixth largest city in the Coachella Valley with a population of 39,801. The city stretches across 36 square miles.  
The average household size in the city of La Quinta  is 2.61 people, and 28% of the total 15,232 households in the city are made up of non-family households (individuals living alone or with non-relatives) - well under the Coachella Valley average.

Erika Van Sickel
Erika received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara then worked at an environmental nonprofit organization in San Diego. She is currently pursuing a master’s in planning at USC with a concentration in design and a certificate in real estate development. Erika is also assisting to investigate rent burden and the resulting sacrifices residents are forced to make. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors and is a yoga and coffee enthusiast.
